Dans l’enquête, les répondants peuvent choisir l’une des fourchettes de valeurs préétablies et aussi ajouter une estimation ponctuelle. Dans un sous-ensemble de cas, les entreprises donnent uniquement une fourchette, qui peut être fermée ou ouverte. Si elle est fermée, on utilise le point milieu. Si elle est ouverte, on utilise l’estimation ponctuelle moyenne des autres répondants se situant dans la même fourchette. La valeur pour chaque trimestre est la moyenne tronquée, excluant les deux réponses les plus élevées et les deux réponses les moins élevées. Dans le Pouls, les répondants ont la possibilité de choisir l’une des fourchettes de valeurs préétablies, qui peuvent être ouvertes ou fermées. On utilise le point milieu des fourchettes fermées. On assigne une valeur de -1 % pour les réponses dans la fourchette ouverte la moins élevée (déflation) et de 9 % pour les réponses dans la fourchette ouverte la plus élevée (« 8 % » ou plus).
